Hypocrisy

Let's learn a new word today. Hypocrisy. Sounds like a big word, but what does it actually mean?

According to The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition (2009):

hy·poc·ri·sy
(hĭ-pŏk'rĭ-sē)
n. pl. hy·poc·ri·sies
  1. The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.

  2. An act or instance of such falseness.

Ever wondering why people would do such a thing? Pretending that they're better than other people? If there's one person I'd hate in this world, it would be a hypocrite. With such character, no one will ever know their real self for they make us believe that their 'beliefs, feelings, or virtues' are correct and publicly approved. Behind us? Oh, you can imagine the mess they would create for they are of the same level as a backstabber without even a slightest difference.

In front of you, you're their BFF, you're their ally. They will say things that are pleasing to the ears and without a doubt, you believe them. And that would be your biggest mistake ever. Believing a hypocrite, bearing in mind that they're always the 'good guys' (I mean, how can you even tell??) will make you doomed to mediocrity. You are nothing but a stage or tool for them to showcase their dramas. These actors/actresses always know when to manipulate your feelings, superiority, power and possession to their advantage. Their physique will blind you from what is inside - everything that he or she is not on the outside.

A pure pretender. Only intends to show the best of themselves. Come on! There's no such thing as PERFECTION coz we're mere human beings. We die. And when that happens, you and I, we're that same rusty smelly dust occupying the land six feet under. So why do you have to be excessively proud of what you have.. parading them around like it's some kind of a winning crown? A proclaimed beauty and the possession of external luxury and wealth don't make you superior. Not at all. It is what we see in you that we can hold on to forever. Your true self. If people hate you for being yourself, be it. To hell with them! You don't need fair-weather friends who only be with you when everything is going well. Find those who stick with you through thick and thin.. the ones who accept your weaknesses, incompleteness and inadequacy. After all, friends come and go.. but true friends stick with you like family!

I guess it's just insecurity or maybe.. jealousy. It must be it. People who pretend to be better than others actually feel insecure and have low self-esteem. These would be the utmost reason why they're protecting themselves with an invisible armour that's saying "Stay Away! I'm Better Than You". They're ashamed of what they are and what they have. Also, they're afraid to let people see their true colours for they may lose their company and are damned to a lifetime of loneliness. Who knows? One thing for sure: they simply don't want to be looked down upon.. and then the drama begins...

People always say, never judge a book by its cover.. but I really wonder how much we understand it or act by it if ever. It seems as if we're living in a superficial world full of lies and deceit that doesn't reflect reality at all. We're all suckers for perfection that we fail to be who we really are, but rather be someone the people would approve. What's wrong with being not rich enough, not pretty enough, not fashionable enough or not educated enough? It doesn't make you less human.

So, go read a few pages or maybe a few lines from the book before we judge it... What say you?
