Durian Galore

Are you a fan of durian? Well, I am! I just loveee the thorny spikes durian with its sharp, pungent aromatic flesh.  It has every right to be called the 'King of the Fruits'. The smell is, yes, quite strong, but you will get past it eventually, trust me. And when you do, you'll start to realise what a great taste it has!

This 'udang merah' durian is yummy!

The durian season is on so I don't wanna miss a thing. Last week, we went to Petaling Jaya SS2  to savour some durians. The place is packed with durian lovers therefore the parking space is limited, but who cares, right?

(click here for Googlemap)

There is a spread of durians of different types (you name it - check out their website) and conveniently, there are a few tables set up around the area (with shades) for the customers to enjoy the durians on the spot! They even supply a washing area for us, together with complimentary mineral water for our thirsty throats (don't forget to drink from the husk to ease the heatiness)! All you have to do is let them know your preference and the durian experts will choose the durians for you. Just remember not to have too much durians! You know you'll get into trouble if you do! ;)

Do you love durian or do you hate it?

p/s: Do you know that the reason it smells is because it has protein in it which starts to ferment when ripening?

Why I Love Vacations

I have a 'thing' with vacations. There, I said it. There are a lot of reasons why I love them. For starters, I get to unwind and relax with my family (and friends) and get a break from my usual routines. Along with that, I get to gain back the sleep that I've been deprived of and sleep as longggg as I want. Ha-ha.

But above all, it's because I think I deserve it. Going on a vacation is like getting a permission slip to stop worrying about everything else and start thinking about me. In addition, it also helps me get back to feeling my best. I mean, when was the last time you did something for yourself?

Many people don't take vacations often enough. I'm aware that not everyone is able to take a vacation or afford it in the first place, but just try to make time for yourself. Taking care of yourself is not selfish. Go somewhere - near or far, so that you get to forget about your problems momentarily, slow down, and just enjoy the moment. Trust me, there will come a moment during a vacation when you will heave a sigh of happiness and contentment and say "this is why I love vacations!". And by that time, I'm sure you'll gain perspective on your problems, so, yeah, I believe there's no better reason to go on a vacation, or anything for that matter, than because you deserve it!

Ahhh.. bliss~ (@Poda Island)

Well, it might be kinda obvious, why a person would love vacations.. but the thought of there's someone out there who actually hated it is kinda bizarre, don't you think so?

p/s: What's your ideal vacation?

Dare to Make Mistakes

Quoting from John Powell, "the only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing". Agree?

I do.

We constantly judge others and are judged in return. Thus, it's only fair to say that we want to be right all the time. I mean, who really wanna lose?? Too bad the inner desire to be right all the time can hurt yourself and others, especially when you start blaming each other and there is just no end to it.

It is perfectly okay to make mistakes. I hope I can tell that to others too so that they will stop finding other people's faults. Mistakes tell us what not to do, what doesn't work and which areas that need improvement. In addition, they also give us a better understanding of the world around us. So, the next time you make a mistake, admit it, correct it, and learn from it - pronto. Be thankful for them, for they teach us valuable lessons that can't be found elsewhere. After all, those who never make mistakes do not usually make anything =)

You and I

Don't get me wrong, this is NOT gonna be a soppy, sentimental entry, nor it is a Scorpions' song. I'm talking about how you refer to yourself and others (personal pronouns). How many of us actually use 'I' and 'you' in our daily conversation with our spouse, friends, colleagues or classmates when speaking Malay - our native language? I bet heaps do.

For example: I rasa nak singgah Jusco nanti, you nak ikut tak? (I want to go to Jusco later, would you like to come too?)

I don't know why some of us (err, for instance, my colleagues - haha) make a big fuss out of such little thing. To be frank, they are rather skeptical and give a look of disapproval in return, as if we're trying to show off or something. What's wrong with using 'you' and 'I'  when conversing in Malay? It still means 'awak' and 'saya' (or 'kamu' and 'aku'). Heyyy, it's not like we're ashamed of the Malay language! It's just fun!

Using more than one language in a conversation is normal and acceptable (to a certain extent) in any society. It is something linguists and we language teachers call 'code-switching', y'all :)

Not Again!

If you're using RON97 petrol like me, brace yourself for another petrol price hike. Effective midnight of May 5, 2011 (5/5/11 - heyyy did they purposely choose this date for the hike??), you and I need to pay extra 20 cents to RM2.90 per litre. If you're using RON95 then you won't need to worry (and suffer) as its price is remaining the same at RM1.90 per litre.

Given that the price of crude oil has rocketed recently, it's no surprise with the hike happening but I'm sure everyone will heave a frustrating sigh, considering that this is the fifth monthly increase in a row since December last year!

At the current price, I have to pay over RM80 (full tank) for my MyVi..
With RM60, I can only fill up up to 22 litres of petrol.

Encountered many people/cars at the petrol station just now, right before the petrol price increases at midnight

p/s: Does the petrol price hike affect you too? In what way?
p/p/s: Hubby's gonna feel the effects of the price hike soon - so much for getting a 2.0cc car in replacement of his old Jazz!

Hello May!

Oooo, hello May! You come so soon yet I can't help feeling relieved coz that means the mid-term holidays are just around the corner! Teehee.

Btw, last weekend was a long one indeed and while everyone took the opportunity to go somewhere or balik kampung, I purposely decided to just stay in the comfort of my own home doing nothing but eat, sleep, relax, watch tv and surf the net all day long, and I could not ask for more. These few weeks have been very hectic and taxing on me so I guess I deserved lazing around for a change.

Plus, long weekends mean traffic jams are everywhere! Tak sanggupppppp!
