Sometimes I Forget

My hubby is a busy, busy man. He works shifts; 2 days, 2 nights and 4 days off. And it goes on and on and on - tak kiralah weekdays or weekends. Sometimes he has to go to customers' sites even on his day off or during the day when he works the night shift so it's hard for me to keep track of his working schedule, really, though he did give me his schedule for easy reference.

One thing I like about his rotating shift schedule is that it gives him opportunities to run errands, spend time with family and friends and engage in other activities that might be challenging on a fixed shift. For instance, if he works night shifts he can send his car for service, do grocery shopping with me (since I'm in the afternoon session now), go to the post office, bank and so on. It also gives me the opportunity to hang out with my friends especially if he works on weekends or the night shift (hehe). If he only works nights all the time, I'm sure he wouldn't be very active during the day and find it hard to complete many tasks that require being awake during the daytime, right? Sometimes I kesian him for having much difficulty acclimating himself to it in the beginning, but come to think of it, he has more time to rest apart from the typical 5 working days/2 days off.. so I guess he's doing okay.

Here's the thing. We're the type of people who rarely talk or text on the phone (zaman 24/7 berkepit dengan henpon sudah pun berlalu hehe). Sometimes I do refer to his schedule, sometimes I don't, especially when he's at the office and I'm also busy with work and other things. If he's on the day shift during weekdays, we usually reach home after work at about the same time - 7 something. There was this one time when I reached home but he wasn't there. I thought he was working extra hours so after I prepared dinner and did apa-apa yang patut, I watched TV and waited for him to come home. Tunggu punya tunggu, in the end I texted him.. "Sayang, when are you coming home? Are you on your way?" After a while he replied, "I work the night shift lah tonight dear." Erkkk!

Sometimes I just forget. Well, so much for rotating shifts!

Gotcha kepala hotak hang!

Uhhhh, I really hate Gotcha Calls, regardless of the age of the people involved. They just seem mean and no, I don't find them amusing at all.

What is a Gotcha Call? If you have been listening to Hitz.FM then you'll know that it is a prank done by the Morning Crew every weekday in the morning by calling in their victims and ruin their days by telling bad news to them, like they have to pay for something they did not buy, tell them a family member is sick when they're not blah blah blah, you get my point. These pranks were sent in by those who knew the victims (friends, family members, colleagues etc.) Some victims got really mad while some even cried when they learn the truth. Trust me, this show is so cringeworthy and lame. I think I'd have to ditch whoever set me up if it ever happened to me. I might as well ban Hitz.FM for as long as I could. I may sound boring but whatever the reasons, humiliating someone is a very poor idea of entertainment! What if you're being gotcha-ed yourself? Agak-agak suka tak?

Life's Like That

If you're wondering how I'm doing, I'm doing just fine basically. Things got better so a thousand thank yous for your concern, really. Somehow I'm still coping with the new changes around me. Some are good, in fact better than before, while some, let's just say, only so-so.

Just within two months, there are some major changes in the household too. There are moments when I just wanna be selfish, but I'm no longer 'single' (if you know what I mean). The moment I wake up in the morning I have a house to attend to.. cleaning and all. Also, now everything is done for two.. cooking (before this asyik tapau je), doing the laundry etc. Living together demands cooperation and mutual understanding.. I'm glad I have such an understanding guy as my husband. Now, if I cook he will do the dishes and if I do the laundry he will help me to hang the clothes etc. I mean, bila sampai rumah sama-sama dah penat kan so kenalah saling bantu-membantu.. It also takes a lot of considerations to make the best decisions. So whatever happens, we just have to stick together and deal with it. Despite everything else, I do enjoy being a (real) married woman. :)

In terms of school, I find the management is a bit huru-hara.. It seems like they like to complicate easy matters. When I gave suggestions and all, they kept on saying 'that was impossible' or 'that is not how we do it here' or 'just continue whatever they've done'. Come on lah.. you gave me this post and that post (huh, typical) but when I tried to help and ease everyone's burden, you insisted that it is undoable. If that's the case, how are we ever going to improve things? This is what I don't like about changing environment.. somehow you are forced to follow the existing culture. I better keep my mouth shut then, nanti tak pepasal di label 'pandai-pandai', and it's not like my suggestions are taken into consideration anyway! Bosan!

Besides that, in my old school, photocopying materials is such a breeze. All we need to do is filling in a form and attach it to whichever materials we want to photocopy and a clerk will take care of everything. You come back in a day or so and it's all there.. ready to be used in your lesson. Here they only allow teachers to send exam papers for photocopying etc. We have to get the students to pay instead.. I mean, what's the problem with putting the printing fee under the school's lain-lain yuran je? At least we get to save time and ink from writing everything on the board. Lainlah kalau every classroom ada projector - kurang-kurang you can just use Power Point for each lesson and concentrate more on teaching and learning process. Am I right?

Another thing I hate is the staff meeting. We have meetings almost every week which usually take place out of normal work hours and sometimes on Saturdays. Most of the time, they are longer than they need to be, turning it into a painfully long, gruelling ordeal. I mean, have you ever met someone who loves meetings??

What makes me feel much better is that I have such good students (tak tau la sebab dorang masih Form 1 and still innocent gitu!). Apart from having low proficiency in English, they're willing to learn and never disappoint me (yet). They are very honest - they tell you what they think, they show you what they feel, they like you because they do like you (itu ari ada budak cakap "I like you, teacher. You're really kind." and when I asked her why, and she just smiled and said "I don't know how to explain it.. but you're realllly kind!" hehe) and they make you laugh and angry at the same time! I really love experimenting with them and seeing how much they enjoy the lesson. Teaching young teenagers really gives me satisfaction. It definitely makes me feel young too! When it comes to work, I have no desire for posts, power or domination of others (except my students heheheh). I just wanna teach, and that's what I'm good at and what I enjoy doing, so I'd rather put my time and effort into it. So, to hell with everything else! Boleh gitu?

p/s: One bad thing about transferring here is asyik melencong ke shopping mall on the way back from work.. Aiyokk!

I ain't perfect. But I try my best to be perfect for other people. I push my limits and I overcome every boundary to make everyone happy. However, sometimes trying doesn't seem enough. I try and try and try, but I always end up hurting. Tears swell up in my troubled eyes. Do you see it? Can you see it? Well, nobody seems to care. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle.. I put on a brave face and try to be happy. Yet deep inside my soul is dying. Heartache. Yes, my heart does ache literally. If only I can put a stop to it.. I lay in my bed thinking about it over and over again. I can't sleep. All I did was toss and turn endlessly. Well, I always have trouble sleeping anyway. But this time, there's a lot going on in my mind. My brain is running around in circles, trying to make sense out of things. I'm so confused, so baffled to the point where all I could say is "God, help me". Yes, God listens. You don't think He does, but He does.

A lot has happened. A lot is still happening. Change is coming. Though not all change is necessarily good, but things are definitely changing. You said you care, but you show no regrets about all the things you did or said. I did my best to please you, but my best was never good enough. Tell me, if you really wanted to hurt me so much, why don't you just stab me in the heart? If I die tomorrow, would that be a relief to you?

Maybe I've failed you, but believe me, you've failed me too.

Mobile Spamming

Today I wanna talk about spam - not email spam, but spam sent via SMS. This is nothing new, and trust me, SMS spam is as big as a problem as email spam. Much to our dismay, this evil advertising approach of sending unwanted SMS isn't slowing down its rapid pace and it's really such a nuisance. Why? First, you can't delete it unless you open it first and second, there's no way to stop it.  It's not like we have a spam filter in our phones to block such SMSes.

From time to time, I receive promotions through SMSes offering this product and that product. Not only that, I recently received a SMS spam on my mobile phone stating I've won cash from Shell and what's funny is, it's not even sent from a local number. And this is not the first time it ever happened. As if I'm gonna waste my money calling them in order to claim the prize and end up giving my bank account details and lose everything... I'm not THAT stupid!

If you still have no idea what I'm talking about since you haven't gotten any, okay, maybe on average, it's a minor issue. But it's still annoying.

Words have power. Indeed, sometimes when we speak we can unintentionally hurt. Even the most minor thing can sting, so please be careful of what you say and how you say it. Think twice before you speak for there are hurts so deep that one cannot reach or heal them with anything. If you don't know how to do so, just remain silent!

'Treasure Chest'

Look at this box.. what comes to your mind?

A Ribena box? A plain Ribena box containing Ribenas?

Well, for me this can be considered as a treasure chest.. a chest containing treasures that only appears once in every two to three months! Let's take a peek inside..

Uuuuuu.. goodies! Well, you did get one right.. there IS a Ribena inside.. plus other things as well!

Let's see.. besides Ribena, there are also Scott's Emulsion (oil/pastilles), Sensodyne, EyeMo, Panadol, Aquafresh toothbrushes and Dequadin. For as long as I can remember, we never run out of these things.. all thanks to Hubby's employer/company for giving away these products to its employees for free! :)

New Hobby

Gardening.. Yep, this is my new hobby. I've always wanted to do this but being thousand miles away from home before this doesn't make it possible. Mom helped with the seeds and some of the plants. I also bought a few during our last trip to Cameron Highlands. For the time being we have serai, cili and pandan, plus cactus, aloe vera and a plant that resembles pokok duit-duit (ni kes taktau nama pokok, main beli je!)

Looking forward to see and enjoy my fruits (or rather, plants hehe) of labour! ^^

p/s: Do you like gardening?

Petrol Price Hike

Petrol prices are completely getting out of hand recently. Do you use RON97 petrol for your vehicle? If you do, then you need to pay extra 10 sen to RM 2.40 per litre now. And if I'm not wrong, its price has just increased some time in December last year.. Gila! The good news is that the pricing for RON95 remains unchanged, but that's hardly relevant to me as I'm using RON97.

First time isi after the hike T.T

Why are petrol prices so high?? They don't have to be! Okay, the obvious answer is the global hike in petrol prices but we as the rakyat really hope the government will take care of all of us especially those poor people in our country.

You know what I hate about petrol hike? The prices of goods will increase too! What's next? Gaji naik? Jangan harap!

One-Stop Convenience

Carrefour Puchong Utama was officially opened last December and the good thing about it is that it's just a stone's throw away from my house! Okay, macam menipu la pulak. But yeah, it's close enough for me to be able to go there regularly (read: once in two days, okay kantoi sudah di situ). Ha-ha.

Carrefour Puchong Utama @ Persiaran Puchong Utama

It really is convenient to have a hypermarket like Carrefour in your area. I usually go to Tesco Puchong or IOI Mall and sometimes Sunway to buy groceries; the thing is they're not that near and I easily end up stuck in a jam to and fro, but not anymore. Besides that, the new branch also has a food court, restaurants (they also have Subway! walauweh..) and more retail stores selling clothes, computer stuff, mobile phones, shoes, spectacles, gift ideas and many more. There's even a Watsons there. Now I feel glad knowing that I can stop by anytime, even on my way to work, to meet my grocery and other shopping needs! (the other day I stopped by there just to get some stationeries for work and ink for printer, and lunch too heee..)

A Beach Picnic

The week before school started, my girl friends and I went on a picnic by the beach. Mana lagi yang dekat? PD lah! We arrived there at noon and my, there were a lot of people that it was almost difficult to look for shady places to spend the day..

What did we do there? Well, what do people often do at the beach? Swimming, beach-bumming, picnicking (we had nasi lemak, kuih-muih, egg sandwich and junk food hehe) and maybe playing some games, of course!

Om nom nom nom..

4 jam berendam - that's got to be a record or something!

In short, everyone enjoyed the trip. I did! I loveee the beach! Girls, we really need to do this more often! ;)

Anyway, if you're still wondering what to do at the beach besides swimming, check this list of 25 Fun Things to Do at the Beach I got from here:
  1. Bonfire parties. (it seems great in movies, but in real life?)
  2. Look for dolphins. (err ada ke kat pantai Malaysia?)
  3. Write messages in the sand. (awwwww.. it's so romantic!)
  4. Play at the boardwalk.
  5. Picnic. (hah! that's what we did!)

  8. Fishing. (sooo not my cup of tea.. I'm not that patient!)
  9. Read magazines. (now this one I like)
  10. Build a sandcastle. (will do if I have kids, if not it wouldn't be as much fun)
  11. Look for seashells. (great for collections)
  12. Go windowshopping in the little seaside shops. (are you sure it's windowshopping and not shopping??)
  13. Surfing. (need bigger waves)
  14. Go topless. (seriously??! like, seriously??!)
  15. Hula hoop, play catch, jump rope or fly a kite.

  17. Meet people. (who knows you get to meet your soulmate there? hehe)
  18. Take photographs. (haruslah kan?)
  19. Search for historic sites. (if you're into History, why not?)
  20. Catch up on phone calls. (definitely not.. I'd rather turn it off instead)
  21. Look for little critters.
  22. Watch the sunset. (one of my fav things to do at the beach!)
  23. Celebrate a holiday or special occasion. (second/third honeymoon, anyone?)
  24. Daydream. (well, I can do this forever!)
  25. Relax. (this is, like, why people go to the beach in the first place! LOL)
Do what you wanna do, the most important thing is you enjoy yourself and just have a great time!

Blood Pressure

My bro who's currently working at a hospital in Kuala Selangor comes over to our place every now and then and he always brings 'goodies' for us. What kind of goodies am I talking about here? Medicines (we never run out of cough syrups and gastric meds nowadays hehe) and medical equipments of all sorts, of course!

Recently he brought back an automatic blood pressure monitor for us.. apa lagi.. galaklah nak mencuba!

Siap dapat free pencil thermometer!

The first time I took mine, the reading was:

Gila! Look at this chart and you'll know what I'm talking about.. High blood pressure!  Nasib baik bukan zon paling merah tu! *aghast*

Thanks TheBloodPressureCentre.

However, after a few days I tried again and the reading was:

You can imagine how relieved I was to see this! But not so relieved, I guess. Huhu. Anyway, Hubby's reading was:

According to the chart, he's somewhere around normal BP and high normal BP.. Watch out, dear! Bro's reading pulak was:

Of course lah, low normal to normal BP :p

Phewww.. it seems like I'd have to monitor my BP from time to time if I don't want to fall under the 'Hypertension' category! Bro asked me to watch my diet and exercise consistently.. Ye, baiklah!

Do you check your blood pressure regularly?

My Precious

Remember my post about my damaged car?

Well, now you see it...

Now you don't! :)

Melayang RM2k haisyyyy.. nak wat camne.. my precious punya pasal~

p/s: Psstt.. just updated my cooking blog yang dah lama bersawang! ;)

Siti and Her Fantasyland

I watched Siti di Alam Fantasi at Istana Budaya last week and I loved it! Whoa, what an adventure!

I must say that it's an amazing local musical production. Great music, props, costumes, lightings and special effects (siap ada laser-laser lagi)! It's also very colourful, meriah and kelakar, it gets me teary-eyed at times! To be frank, it's like Alice in Wonderland meets The Wizard of Oz and The Frog Prince!

Cute, giggly lil bees

Let's enter the fantasy land with Siti (Liyana), a pretty, rich but arrogant girl, who is seeking for her family heirloom - a precious jewel stone and ends up in the magical woods with her servant, Mamat (Ebby Yus), where animals could talk. She encountered many interesting creatures like a talking tree (Johan Raja Lawak - my, he can act! And funny at that too!), burung bayan@parakeet (taktau sapa berlakon), roaches yang pandai menari rock n roll, chameleon (sapa yang bawak watak ni memang menjadi la! Ha-ha nak tergelak aku tengok!)-cum-prince charming (Fizo Omar - he's, errr, considered okay), caterpillars yang gedik-ala-maknyah, spider queen (Vanida Imran, who screeches a lot but pulled it off perfectly), frog king yang gatal-and-perasan who wanted to marry Siti despite already having two wives (hail the frog queens - Umie Aida and Ziela Jalil), cute but kay-poh-chee bees, beautiful fireflies, hot and sexy singing/dancing mermaids and not to forget, the villain who stole the stone - the gigantic centipede!

The chameleon, spider queen and parakeet
Jovial fish and sexy mermaids
Funny pokok and loyal servant
Siti's 'colourful' friends

Like most fairy/folk tales, the story is laden with character discovery and an abundance of moral values like love, humility, friendship, patience, cooperation, sacrifice and many more. In her quest to retrieve the 'geliga', Siti has changed to be a better person in the end. She also got herself a prince charming... and they lived happily ever after! (what a cliche) Well, whaddaya expect? It's a fairy tale after all!

Siti and her prince charming

I really enjoyed the show..  and you will, too! Harap-harap ada Siti di Alam Fantasi 3 pulak lepas ni!

Siti wannabe? :p
Sorry Siti.. mak tetap menten!
Next up is.. err.. Muzikal Tun Mahathir 2 or Lat Kampung Boy Muzikal? Or both??

Do you like to watch theatre?

Life Starts At 10

Yep, it's true.. my life starts at 10 now. And I'm not talking about years/age here.

One good thing about teaching in the afternoon session is: I get to stay up late at night and sleep in the following morning! And as you've probably guessed, I wake up at 10am (buruk perangai, tapi nasiblah!) every day and I usually spend the next one hour or so doing household chores like general cleaning, doing the laundry, ironing and cooking, which is good coz I hardly had time to do that when I was 'bujang' in Sabah, except on weekends.

And since I have more time to cook, I bring packed lunch to work too. Sometimes I bring heavy food like rice or noodles, while other times I bring light lunch like sandwich or crackers. Bagus tak? I mean, in this day and age, you have to save money in every way possible and one of the best ways to save money is go bring your lunch with you! It's healthier and less expensive too! This is definitely one of my money resolutions for this year - even if I can't do so every day, I'll try to bring lunch to work more often. Assuming that an average lunch costs RM5, it'll cost you about RM1050 in a year (RM5x210 school days, give or take) if I eat out every day. Looks like a big figure when you add it all up, doesn't it? Just wondering, what do you usually bring to work for lunch (if you do so)?

Also, I get more time to get ready for work! I really take my time to shower, get dressed and do my make-up now. Kalau awal pagi tu haruslah kelam kabut! I now get compliments from my colleagues on my eye make-up (nothing much, just bright eye shadow and eye liner).. siap mintak tips lagi! Ha-ha.

The bad thing? Like I mentioned in my previous post, topping the list is daily exhaustion (work + traffic jam). I mean, by the time I reach home it's already Maghrib and as opposed to being able to stay up late, I usually retire early every night! Also, I now have less time and energy to socialise - no more afternoon lepak or dinner and movie dates with friends. Nak melawat Isabelle baru bersalin pun tak sempat! I now have to go to school in the morning not only on Wednesdays but also Thursdays! We also have meetings on Saturdays (like last week and this week), well, not every Saturday but from time to time, we do :(

So, yeah, so much for starting my life at 10am.
