Raya Open House

Organised my first ever open house here since I got back from Sabah/got married a couple of weeks ago, and boy, though fulfilling, it was exhausting! Some of the menu on that day were nasi ayam, soto, nasi impit and kuah kacang, and desserts. And yes, I myself cooked/prepared all those food, so you can imagine how hectic it was on that day and the day before! Anyway, I don't mind it at all coz it felt extremely good having family and friends around at our humble abode, and I'd love to do it again some time, just not that soon ha-ha..

The only pic taken on that day - tu pun after everyone else had gone back huhu..

Here I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who managed to come on that day, especially my family who came all the way from Perak for the event - I can't thank you enough. I'd also like to say sorry kalau ada apa-apa yang kurang when it comes to food and hospitality.

Mission: Open House - succeeded! :-)

Men vs. Women

Ever wonder about the difference between men and women?

"THINGY" :-
Female: Any part under a car's hood.
Male: The strap fastener on a woman's bra.

"VULNERABLE" :-
Female: Fully opening up one's self emotionally to another.
Male: Playing cricket without a box.

"COMMUNICATION" :-
Female: The sharing of thoughts and feelings with one's partner.
Male: Leaving a note before suddenly taking off for a weekend with the boys.

"BUTT" :-
Female: The body part that "looks bigger" no matter what is worn.
Male: What you slap when someone scores a try, home run, or goal. Also good for mooning.

"COMMITMENT" :-
Female: A desire to get married and raise a family.
Male: Trying not to pick up other women while out with girlfriend.

"ENTERTAINMENT" :-
Female: A good movie, concert, play or book.
Male: Anything that can be done while drinking.

"FLATULENCE" :-
Female: An embarrassing by-product of digestion.
Male: An endless source of entertainment, self-expression, and male bonding.

Too hilarious! Got this from here.

Stress Management

The cares and problems of life can burden you with stress and anxiety, robbing you of peace. What do you do when you're stressed out? Below are the list of things I usually do whenever I'm stressed out or need a pick-me-up:
  1. Cook - This tops my list of things to do when I'm stressed out. I always cook when I'm stressed out. It's quite gratifying knowing I make nothing into something. Cooking takes my mind off any unpleasant things that have been bothering me.
  2. Clean- Yup, this is what I always do regardless of the time and place, but trust me, it doesn't sound as peculiar. It's quite relieving to see everything is in place actually.
  3. Pray - Praying can evaporate stress, fear, worry and even sorrow! To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return..
  4. Listen to some music - I believe that music is therapeutic, provided that you listen to the right kind of music (calming, soothing ones), of course. But a lil dose of your favourite music wouldn't hurt either. One good thing about it is I can forget about the whole world for a moment and focus on what I hear directly in my ears instead.
  5. Blog - Sometimes, all it takes to calm a troubled soul is to pour your heart out into the open. It's one of the healthiest ways to deal with and release negative emotions!
  6. Swim - Sliding through the water always helps me clear my head. Why do I love swimming? Read here.
  7. Shop - It's amazing what a lil retail shopping can do, huh? (Good for the soul, bad for the wallet!)
  8. Eat - It's not like I'm that hungry or that my fav food makes things better. It's just that it causes enough bliss to forget how much things suck!
  9. Go for a drive - I love driving.. it makes me feel good especially if I got lotsa things in mind. Nothing's better than going for a ride with the windows down and the music up!
  10. Hang out with friends - Doing things I enjoy with people I like is a sure-fire way to help to help me refocus, relax and in control of my stress.
  11. Talk to someone - Simply talking to someone I trust, and who I feel understands, can lighten the burden I'm carrying. Well, what do they say, sharing is caring!
  12. Play with my cats - Animals are wonderful stress relievers!
  13. Shower - Words can't describe the wonderful feeling as the water hit my body. It's as if the time just stops for a while.
  14. Sleep! - Things always get better after sleeping, well, most of the time. Need I say more?
  15. Do unexpected things - What I have in mind are bungy jumping or travelling on the first plane out of town, but the one unexpected thing I always do is getting a new haircut! :p
You gotta admit that the stress of the daily grind has somehow taken its toll on our emotional, physical and social well-being. Everyone reacts differently when it comes to coping with stress, so devise a plan tailored to your own needs before things start to go drastically downhill. After all, having at least one daily stress relief habit will make a significant difference in the level of stress you feel. Whatever it is, you know you'll need real help when you look like this:

It's Official!

Nothing too extraordinary, it's just that it's confirmed that starting this week, I now teach in the morning session. The decision has been made a few weeks ago once a few teachers left school due to retirement. I don't mind it at all, really, except for the part where everything is sorta back at square one and that I have to start all over again especially when it comes to the students and syllabus, and it's already September, for God's sake!

My beban tugas has also changed. I'm now the class teacher of 4P2, a class famous for its notoriety, I dare not explain in what way. In fact, during my first encounter with them, they had really got on my nerves till I lost all my patience and senses that I mengamuk like there's no tomorrow and guess what, they turned out OK during the following lesson, in which I hope will remain the same at least until the end of the year. Now you guys know what Madam Aida is really capable of, eh? Don't play play~

Some of the perks of teacher in the morning session include balik awal (yay! itupun kalau takde meeting), no traffic jam to and fro - all thanks to my odd work hours, more time to rest in a day and to run errands like going to the bank or shopping and that it somehow fixes my sleeping troubles - I now sleep like a baby at night, even before my usual bedtime! The downside? Not being able to sleep in in the mornings!! :P

p/s: I've always been a night owl. Nocturnal, that is.

Dysmenorrhea :(

It's that time of the month again. Oh well, that simply evinces that my heartfelt desire to start a family soon is still a far cry. It's true that I don't mind being married without kids yet, but I do want some someday, but when? Takkan dah tua sok baru nak beranak kan? But it's okay coz I've always believed that Allah has better plans for us, insyallah.

Anyway, last night I got cramps all over my body especially my legs and pelvic area and this morning I got sharp, searing pain in my abdomen aka severe menstrual pain aka dysmenorrhea. According to this website, a period pain is:

"The pain that accompanies periods is caused by contractions of the uterus or womb, similar to those of another 'normal' pain women suffer - during labour. Each contraction causes the blood supply to the womb to be cut down temporarily as the blood vessels in the muscle wall are compressed. As the tissues are starved of oxygen, chemicals that trigger pain are released.At the same time the body is releasing chemicals called prostaglandins, which induce stronger contractions and which may directly cause pain in the womb. As the contractions get stronger, so the pain increases."

It really really hurt and I was clueless on what should I do about it but I hope it's nothing serious. I'm feeling much better now, all thanks to Panadol. I hardly take it in a case like this but I feel I have no choice since everything I did was to no avail. In most cases, dysmenrrhea is unfortunate, but normal, part of life for women. Nobody really knows for sure - it's just one of those annoying facts of life that doesn't seem quite fair.

p/s: Seek help if it gets worse.

Get Smurf'd!

Sapa tak pernah tengok kartun The Smurfs - a group of small blue fictional creatures kekecik dulu? Rugiiii.. coz it's really fun and funny especially the part where they're named after their dominant trait and that they use the word 'smurf' for everything! I recently watched the cartoon-turned-movie at the cinema and it was not as awesome as I thought it would be but it was OK, I guess. Just flawed.

It started off very Enchanted-ish (the movie Enchanted), where some of the smurfs were magically sent to the present day New York through a vortex when they were chased by the evil Gargamel and his equally evil-but-more-sensible ginger cat, Azrael, who destroyed their village back in their world. In NYC, they met an expecting couple named Patrick and Grace who let them stay in their apartment while they're trying to find a way to get back to their village.

As much as I could not stop laughing watching it, the story could have been better. First, it is a cartoon. And generally, cartoons are for kids, and guess what? The story is set in a grown-up world and there's no child character to introduce the magical creatures and to join the action! Still, I'm sure kids will love it anyway. Second, this story reminds me of The Sorcerer's Apprentice where there are countless encounters between the protagonists and antagonists but too much is too much - people like me want to see real action and adventure, not similar, meaningless encounters that make the story predictable and dull. Third, there's too many smurf word substitutions, which of course hilarious for most adults but not suitable for kids who tend to pick up all of these words easily, unless you don't mind your kids smurfing away, of course!

All in all, it's entertaining enough but I think that is all to it. For more info, click here.

p/s: La la la la la la lalalalalaaaaa - can't get this song outta my head, it's so ADDICTIVE!!

Ada Ke Wordless Thursday? :D

Salam Aidilfitri

Selamat Hari Raya to everyone! May you have a fantastic and blessed Raya this year filled with joy, love, kindness and peace. Hari Raya is a day for us for us to forgive each other and forget our differences - so, ampunnnnn dari hujung rambut ke hujung kaki atas salah dan silap yerrrr! Have a great time with your family and friends!:)

p/s: Ucapan ini biarpun lambat, janji ada XD

Kad Raya

This is the one and only kad raya I got this year and it was from a student of mine. Frankly speaking, I haven't received any in many many years (in fact, I didn't send any in many many years too!), so I was truly flattered when he handed this to me a few days before the hols. Budak Chindian lak tu! Bukanlah nak kata apa kan.. tapi budak Melayu ada la 2 orang kot yang salam minta maaf and wished me Selamat Hari Raya. Yang lain, yillek. Kad raya apatah lagi. And it's not like I expect any.. just wondering, where have all the courtesy and respect gone??

p/s: Back then when I was young, we were made to salam all the teachers on the last day of school before raya.

p/p/s: Sekarang ni budaya ucapan raya melalui sms, e-mail, Twitter or Facebook je. Tu pun liat bebenor orang nak buat.

Iftaar at KLCC

I went out with my BFFs for iftaar at KLCC on the final week of puasa and I must say I loveee the raya deco at the centre court. There's this kampung house which gave a real raya feel.. I dunno why, but I think the best raya is the one celebrated in kampung. Stereotype. I know haha. Anyhu, semua orang berebut-rebut nak amek gambar kat situ okay - especially mat salleh. Tak pernah tengok kot. Hehe.

I know it's already raya and all but I just feel like posting this entry for keepsake :)

Salam, jangan tak salam..
Selamat Hari Raya!!
